If you’re like us, you’d do almost anything to avoid the throngs of people lining up at the register for Halloween costumes. The good news is…you can! Creating your own Halloween costume doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. All you need to do is think of an easily recognizable character and collect the items needed to bring it to life. The best part is that you may already have some of the items lying around the house. Not feeling creative? Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Rosie the Riveter

Items needed:
• Blue button-down shirt (preferably denim)
• Red polka-dot scarf, bandana, or piece of fabric large enough to make a head wrap
• Black eyeliner/eyebrow pencil
• Blue jeans
• Work boots
• “We Can Do It” sign (optional) - poster board, blue paint, white paint (or white letter decals), scissors. Cut out in a “conversation bubble” shape.

Waldo from Where’s Waldo?

Items needed:
• Red and white striped long-sleeved shirt
• Red and white striped hat
• Blue jeans
• Brown boots or shoes
• Brown messenger bag or camera bag
• Round, black-rimmed glasses
• Brown cane
• Where’s Waldo book (optional)

Gorton’s Fisherman

Have a happy and safe Halloween!
